Is Voltaic worth it if you play CS2 or Valorant ranked?
Yes, for the job it does. The mistake is expecting it to do the job it deliberately leaves out.
Yes, Voltaic is worth it, for the job it does. It is the standard for structured aim training, the benchmarks are free, and it is where we send everyone who asks about a trainer routine. The question worth asking is not whether Voltaic is good. It is whether raw aim is the thing holding your rank back right now, because for most players in the middle ranks it is not.
What Voltaic is
Voltaic is a community and a set of benchmarks for aim trainers, mainly KovaaK's and Aimlabs. You run a fixed set of scenarios, get a rank from the scores, and follow routines built to move that rank. The benchmarks are well designed, the community is serious, and the ranking gives you a clean number that moves when you improve. That is genuinely useful, and it is not something we are trying to replace. Soarne is not an aim trainer and does not want to be one.
What a trainer score actually measures
A 2024 study found KovaaK's scores are highly consistent when players repeat the same tasks days apart. So a Voltaic rank is a real measurement of one skill: moving a crosshair onto a target you can already see, and clicking.
That isolation is the whole point, and it is also the limit. In a trainer the target is on your screen, it appears at a set time, and missing costs a percentage point. In a CS2 or Valorant round, you decide where to look before anything appears, the enemy decides the timing, and missing costs the round. No study has shown that trainer improvement reaches your rank, and researchers say so openly.
When Voltaic is worth your time
- Your raw click is genuinely slow or shaky. If you lose duels where both players see each other at the same moment, with your crosshair already on target, that is the trainer's job.
- You want a clean measurement. A daily three-minute scenario at the same point in your routine tells you about your state today. A drop with no other explanation means you slept badly, or you are tilted, or something else is off. That is a use most players never think of.
- You are switching games. Sensitivity conversion and a settled arm carry over between titles. A trainer is the neutral ground for that.
When it is not the fix
- Your trainer scores climb and your rank does not. That is the most common pattern, and it means the click is not your problem. More trainer time will not help.
- You die to players you never saw. Clearing, crosshair placement and information are not trainable in a trainer, because there is nothing to pre-aim before the target exists.
- You shoot while moving. In CS2 and Valorant, accuracy is tied tightly to your velocity. A lot of "my aim is bad" is really "I fired before I stopped". The trainer cannot see that either.
How to use both
Keep the Voltaic routine, short. Five minutes of easy scenarios as a warm-up, one benchmark session a week to track the number. Then spend the rest of your practice time on what the trainer leaves out: crosshair placement at head height, aiming at the angle before you walk into it, stopping before you shoot, and reviewing your own deaths honestly.
Track three numbers for four weeks: your Voltaic rank, one in-game number you chose in advance, and how often your crosshair had to travel more than a body width when a fight started. If the trainer rank goes up and the game number stays flat, you have your answer, and it is not more trainer.
Where to go from here
The reasoning behind all of this, with the studies, is in From the Trainer to the Server. For CS2 specifically, the counter-strafing guide covers the stop-before-you-shoot habit that the trainer cannot teach, and the CS2 hub has the rest. Voltaic and the other tools we recommend are on the resources page, with a line on when to use each.
Voltaic is the right place for raw aim. Soarne is what you do with it once the round starts. They are not in competition, and the players who improve fastest use both for what each one is for.
