From the Trainer to the Server
Trainer scores are real, but nothing shows they reach your rank. What a trainer leaves out, why experts look before they aim, and how to check that your training transfers.

The problem
01Your aim got better. Your rank did not.
If that has happened to you, nothing is wrong with you. You have been training one skill and being ranked on a different one.
Three facts, and then what to do about them.
Trainer scores are real. A 2024 study had ten esports players repeat the same KovaaK's tasks days apart. The scores were highly consistent, with reliability between 0.947 and 0.995. When your number goes up in a trainer, that is a genuine improvement.
Nobody has shown that improvement reaches your matches. There is no study proving aim trainer time raises your rank. Researchers say this openly. The community trains on guidelines that have never been tested.
Practice is worth less than people say. Across every field studied, practice explained 26% of performance differences in games. So about three quarters of the gap to the next rank is not hours.
Your trainer score is a measurement. It is not the thing being measured.
Why it matters
02What a trainer leaves out
A trainer gives you one job: move the crosshair onto a target you can already see, and click.
That is deliberately simple, and it is why the scores are trustworthy. If you want structured aim training, use Voltaic. Their benchmarks are the standard and we recommend them properly. This guide is about the part they leave out on purpose.

The rule in motor learning is simple: you get good at what you actually practise. In a trainer, everything you react to is already visible. In a match, almost nothing is.
A trainer trains the click. Rank is mostly won before the click.
03The real difference is where you look
This is the most important thing in the guide.
A 2025 study tested 63 people: 28 experienced FPS players and 35 who did not play. Everyone did 72 aiming trials based on Counter Strike routines.
The experienced players were faster in every condition, and their accuracy was no better.
Why they were faster: over 40% of their attempts used one eye movement and no pause. Straight to the target, no searching. The non players usually needed two or three eye movements to do the same thing.
Same accuracy. The experts just did not have to look for anything.
A second study found that the last steady look before you click matters, and that pressure does not make that look shorter. It makes it start later.
Under pressure you do not lose your aim. You lose the ability to get your eyes there early.
That is all crosshair placement is. It is not a beginner tip. It is the reason a good player fights with one eye movement and you fight with three.
What to do
04Three rules for placement
1. Keep the crosshair at head height
At the distance you expect to fight. Not the floor, not the sky.
A crosshair at chest height means every fight needs an up or down correction plus a sideways one. Head height means one correction.
2. Aim at the angle before you walk into it
Your crosshair gets there first, then your body. Every angle you pass with your crosshair somewhere else is a free shot for them.
3. Make the distance shorter, not the flick faster
Experts were not faster at moving. Their movements were shorter, and they did not need to search first.
You cannot make your eyes faster. You can make the crosshair start closer to the answer.
The ten minute drill
One map, no opponents. Walk your normal route and clear angles like it is a real round.
Do not score it. Just count how often your crosshair would have needed to travel more than a body width when a fight started. That count is the thing to reduce.
Do this before you queue. It does not replace your trainer session.
05Stopping is the skill in some games and the mistake in others
Every shooter links your accuracy to how fast you are moving. Games differ in how strongly. That link decides one thing, and it is a big one: do you stop before you shoot, or do you keep moving while you shoot.

In the games where you stop first, a lot of "my aim is bad" is really "I shot while moving". Counter strafing exists only to stop you as fast as possible so the shot lands where you already aimed.
In the games where you keep moving, that sentence flips over. A lot of "my aim is bad" is really "I stood still to steady the shot and lost to someone who did not".
We are not going to teach you the movement tech for each game here. That belongs to the game leads who actually play them. What you need from this guide is the question: does my game want me stopped when the shot leaves, or not?
Peeker's advantage is not skill, it is latency. The person peeking sees you before you see them, because of connection delay and server ticks. It is maths, and unlike everything above it is true in all of these games.
Which means: if you are holding an angle, you must already be aiming at it. You have less time than they do. Holding an angle with your crosshair off it throws away the only advantage you had.
06Check whether it is working
No study can tell you if your training is reaching your games. So measure it yourself.

07What we are not claiming
- No study shows aim trainer time raises your rank.
- The eye tracking research shows a difference between experts and beginners. It does not prove copying it makes you an expert.
- The movement section is how the games are built, not a study. It is different in every game and it changes with patches.
- This routine as a whole has never been tested against a control group, because nobody has run that experiment.
If that changes, this guide changes, and we will say so out loud.
